Bedrock core bar
Position: In-channel
Form
Elongate bedrock ridge over which sediments have been draped and colonised by vegetation. Sediments become finer downstream, and the age structure of the vegetation gets younger.
Process description
During the waning stages of large flood events, sediments are deposited on top of an instream bedrock ridge. When colonised by vegetation, additional sediment is trapped and accumulates on top of the bedrock core. Over time the bar builds vertically and longitudinally as sediments are trapped in the wake of vegetation.
