Pot hole

Pot hole

Position: In-channel

Form

Deep, circular scour features occur in bedrock.

Process description

Pot holes are sculpted from bedrock by corrasion (i.e. hydraulic and abrasive action of water). The effectiveness of this process is determined by the volume and hardness of particles that are trapped in the pothole. Abrasion is induced by these particles, which deepen and widen the pothole.
